Licence to build: Basque engineering firm introduces vessel design system in British shipbuilder and US concern GA-ASI
 

Basque engineering firm Sener Ingeniería y Sistemas yesterday announced a new agreement to install its CAD/CAM Foran system at all subsidiaries of British shipbuilding group BAE Systems. Under the agreement, Foran may be installed in any BAE group firm, en in any member of the Aircraft Carrier Alliance, and in any subcontractor used by these firms. BAE will be using Foran as a strategic business application to support and improve vessel design, construction and integration at its UK shipyards. Company spokesmen at Sener say that the use of Foran in design and manufacturing processes reduces costs, substantially shortens delivery periods increase product quality noticeably. With the new agreement, 200 licences have already been installed at two shipyards. The licences are being used to develop different phases of the future British Navy aircraft carriers and for internal training.
