According to Spain's national INE statistics agency, the Basque electrical and electronics equipment manufacturing industry has fully confirmed its current upsurge on Spain's industrial scene. In 2007 it accounts for no less than 10 per cent of national sales by the industry, this being the first time it had passed the 9 per cent mark in the last fifteen years. This fine performance was due largely to a 27 per cent upturn in sales, which came to €3,390 million, when the Spanish average could only manage a 9.5 per cent increase. What's more, this extra billing was accompanied by improved employment figures. The Basque industry's workforce totalled 17,403, up 8 per cent over the previous year, at a time when the national average fell by 1 per cent to 147,692. In other words, 11.8 per cent of all people employed by the Spanish electrical and electronics equipment manufacturing industry at year-end 2007 worked at Basque firms.
