Biography
My research examines how educational institutions affect the language practices and ideologies of ethnic and linguistic minorities. While I have focused on the Basque case, I have also addressed these issues as they pertain to minority students in the United States. Specifically, my doctoral research investigated the effects language of instruction-Basque versus Spanish-had on high school students' identities and language practices. This work informs my current research which considers how gender ideologies and employment experiences affect language use in the Basque Country as well as its immigrant communities in California. In addition, I have recently become part of a collaborative research project studying the relationship between science curriculum, organizational culture, federal policy, and identity formation.
